Picnic in style

Summer is drawing to an end and therefore the warm summer evenings are as well. I challenged myself this Summer to make use of them. I also challenged myself to showcase Britain's finer Summer destinations. Cambridge has some beautiful places to picnic, tourist destinations to see and of course photo opportunities to be had. The other evening I packed up all my picnic essentials and set to it.

A picnic has the versatility to be a casual or a luxury affair. So what is the happy medium? How do you picnic in style?  Including outfit, food, blanket and wine?

The Blanket

The blanket is the trade mark piece of the picnic and a good check never goes amiss. Instead of the usual red I've opted for a green and beige. It has a more thicker luxurious feel to it and the fabric feels long lasting.

Here are a couple of options on various budgets for your stylish blanket.

Food and cutlery

Food is obviously a vital part of the picnic. Probably my favourite part.. ha! Long gone are the days of sandwiches though. Cakes, pastries and anything sweet go undoubtedly well with an evening sunset picnic. You can bake you're own cake or if you're lazy buy it. A little bit of luxury never hurt anybody.

The outfit

When I think picnic, I think dress. Yes if you know me well enough I think dress for everything. But for this occasion I think A-line dress, and a more demure neck line. I paired my outfit with a see through bomber jacket. Light enough to keep me warm from the dropping temperature but not thick and bulky for a Summer night.

(They only have powder blue left of the dress)

Finally a stylish picnic wouldn't be complete without a beverage, a glass of champagne, white wine or a spirit complements the sweet treats in your hamper. Breathe, relax AND ENJOY!

Palette of pastels - Summer lookbook

  Palette of pastels

Summer will be ending soon and the leaves will be changing to a more murkier colour of brown but my love for pastels will never die even if the season does. I'm back with a new combination of this palette. Whilst simultaneously bringing #fullythrifted (An abandoned series of blog posts dedicated to vintage finds and beautiful rare finds). You can check out part one here.

I'm hauling the tennis skirt style back into the limelight this week, after the big hype around two years ago I was sick of seeing this piece. But this reversible skirt has seen a comeback in my wardrobe, you may have seen me sporting it a couple of weeks ago here . However it has been reassembled with this lovely v neck ruffled blouse. Ruffles are in and they're in big this autumn so this outfit is acting as a slow transition into possibly a larger more outlandish style to come.

Cocktails at Mimi's - Short travel post

Cocktails & Food at Mimi

I've decided to make short and sweet little travel posts for the next month of various highlights of the day. Today's photogenic highlights include this lovely restaurant and bar. I ordered the salt & pepper wrap with veggies and fries. We also ordered a vegetarian Mexican wrap, with nacho's and hummus.

Very spicy but a little spice never hurt anyone! The menu catered for both meat eaters & vegetarians which I was incredibly glad about. I loved the presentation of the plates and the overall atmosphere was delightful. A small establishment that felt slightly whimsical with it's nature woodland theme. The bar was reasonably priced and the menu had a wide variety of  flavours. A nice little retreat from the unfortunately rainy day.

The Tea dress

The tea dress. A staple since the 1940's but origins relating back to the orient and prime factors taken from the classic kimono. No longer worn for just afternoon tea this piece can be worn casually or formally. A much loved piece that has been rekindled with this summer but isn't set to leave for autumn/ winter 16' either.
This particular tea dress is from ASOS I really love the flippy pleats around the shoulders the widened shoulder creates a smaller torso and a lengthened leg. I'm not sure about the tightened tie right on the top of the waist on my figure however. This dress is a classic block colour ( not my usual patterned  busyness but I quite like the simplicity of the look. The colour is slightly more brown, I would probably describe it as a reddy brown rust colour. Perfect for the upcoming autumn months as well therefore the perfect transitional colour and shape.
